How to Create Diamond Engagement Rings

    • 1). Find your budget. Overspending on an engagement ring is a mistake made all too often. You don't want to spend years paying off the ring instead of enjoying it. Remember that you can always upgrade to a more expensive ring in later years.

    • 2). Pick a diamond shape. Diamonds come in many shapes and sizes. Decide which cut best suits your style and needs. Many women prefer a princess cut or round cut diamond but there are many more to chose from. It may be helpful to discuss your fiancée's preferences. Decide what size diamond you would like. The price will depend greatly on the karat size and clarity of your diamond.

    • 3). Choose a setting and band for the diamond. The setting consists of prongs that hold the diamond in place. The band will be the part of the ring that wraps around the finger. There are many choices for the material used. Choose among gold, white gold and platinum for the setting and band.

    • 4). You may either choose a ring that is pre-made or a jeweler can combine your choices into a custom ring. Many people chose to place other jewels around the main diamond as accent pieces.
