Work From Home - My Top Five Reasons
I used to make a good income by most standards in my old 9 to 5 job.
So many times I am asked why I quit that job and have been working from home for the past ten years.
So I thought it would be a good subject to write about.
I actually decided to just narrow it down to my top five reasons why working at home has been so much more rewarding for me than any job I ever had.
1.
Raise My Own Child When I first had the desire to find a way to work from home I was a single dad raising my then five year old daughter by myself.
There was nothing that irritated me more than having to drop off my daughter at day care very early in the morning and then pick her up well into the evening.
It just did not make any sense to me to do that.
I was not able to see her growing up, and they grow up quickly in those early years.
I was missing all that and I was getting very irritated by the fact that someone else was raising my daughter.
So being able to raise my own daughter was the number one reason I had the desire to find a way to work at home.
2.
Be The Boss I always used to tell people that I quit working for "The Man" because I had a bad attitude.
That is really just a joke, but there is still a lot of truth to it.
I really did not like being told what to do, when to do it, what time I had to get up in the morning, what kind of house I could live in, what kind of car I could drive, what kind of vacation I could take, if I could even take a vacation...
you name it.
When you work for someone else they basically dictate your whole life to you.
I hated that.
However, I will ad that owning your own business is sometimes much harder than working for someone else.
There is a tremendous amount of responsibility that comes with running your own business and in some ways it is much harder mentally to run your own business, but the rewards are so much more that the trade off for me has always been well worth it.
3.
Determine Your Own Income One of the things that I also hated about working for someone else is that I really did not have a whole lot of control over my income.
I always found that at the beginning of the year I had a pretty good idea of how much I would make that year.
As the years went on I found myself becoming less and less satisfied with the income.
If I wanted to double or triple my income this year chances of that happening were slim to none.
With running my own business my income is only limited by my own ability to continue to grow my business.
I also enjoy that as I am growing my business I am adding to my income all the time.
I do not have to start at zero each year I get to start right where I left off from last year.
4.
Create My Own Schedule Remember when I said how I hated someone else dictating what time I would get up, what time I could go home, what time I could have lunch...
etc.
etc.
Running your own business now puts you in the driver's seat and you can set your own schedule.
When you have kids and other activities that they all get involved in that is a huge benefit.
I remember being able to go to my daughters school and help out, or getting to go to field trips with the class.
Most times I was the only dad there.
Running your own business allows you to create your own schedule and set it up according to your own personal priorities.
It is hard to put a price tag on that.
5.
Freedom By far the most valuable thing to me is my freedom.
Owning your own business give you a tremendous amount of freedom.
I have always said this life is not a dress rehearsal for when the real thing comes along.
This is it and if I do not enjoy what I am doing with it then I am doing it wrong.
