Spinal Muse!

This is especially for all of us who live on working 9 hours a day on the computer! Its the foundation of your body and to some the most sexy part of the physical appearance of any person...
its your back.
Any yet how many of us are able to enjoy the beauty and poise that our spine can give us? Yes everyone's already spoken about how the long hours on the computer can screw it up for your posture.
But lets just take a quick look at what makes intuitive sense in this regard.
Most of us develop bad posture habits since adolescent years and sometimes even earlier.
Combined with that, sitting at a chair for 8+ hours a day just aggravates those posture problems.
The biggest indicators of that are neck discomfort or pain, droopy shoulders, curved mid back and unsupported lower back.
Leaning forward to read on the computer every few mins adds to your back's misery.
Alright so you're thinking there's no way you can avoid the computer.
So what can you do? Become aware.
Be aware of your body's strain in different positions.
All through your working day, keep coming back to your inner body awareness as many times as you can.
This will help you to be more grounded and understand the rhythms of your body better.
And believe it or not, it can even help you focus even better on your work! Notice what happens when you lean to one side reading an email that has surprised you.
Have you then leaned on the other side to balance out the effect on your spine? Do you tend to always lean over on one side? This can go on to cause scoliosis and many other not very happy sounding conditions! Do you carry your bag on one shoulder almost all the time? Then alternate between both sides.
Are you in the habit of folding one leg under your seat on a chair? I used to do that all the time! That causes an imbalance of your spine that over long periods, creates pain.
Either stop doing that altogether or begin to alternate between the two sides.
Better still...
just fold both your legs up! It's amazing what a simple habit change can achieve for your health.
Do you have a strong core muscle group? Try to work your abdominal muscles to support your back.
But be sure to balance it with back strengthening exercises.
Remember to balance your weight evenly between the two feet and the front and back and the side to side portions of your feet.
Your feet, knees and pelvic floor are all going to help you support your back.
Open up your chest! This is something you cannot achieve without a relatively straight spine.
Try it! Also, sometimes constipation can lead to lower back pain.
Keep that in check.
Of course yoga can help you deal with your back problem.
But be sure to be patient and not expect all the solutions to come to you at once.
Studies have shown that those who practice yoga for as little as twice a week for 8 weeks make significant gains in strength, flexibility, and endurance, which is a basic goal of most rehabilitation programs for back pain or neck pain.
Wish you A healthy spine always!
