Principles

How do I find suitable topics?

That in the Wikipedia is already well over one million articles, does not mean that any problems could not contribute anything. On the wiki project page you will find many different projects in which new employees are welcome.

Preparatory work and research

Before writing some preparatory work is important. First you should find out what exists at the scheduled topic of articles in Wikipedia already, so you do not create articles that have been around . Here you can search to be a good help. Often there are also other language versions of Wikipedia, especially in the English Wikipedia , already articles, information from which you can take over its own examination. Read more on research .

If you want to create a new article, ask yourself first whether he is really in one encyclopedia fits. The guidelines in " What Wikipedia is not "provide this information. If articles on people, companies, organizations or trade goods below the relevant threshold are unsuitable or lemma shall be prepared, you risk that they quickly deleted are. This is true regardless of how well you write it. To avoid any frustration, it is therefore advisable to check beforehand whether the person, firm or organization which relevance criteria met.

To contribute to a successful product, write about topics that you understand something. Be self-critical and focus on your areas of expertise. As sources for creating a good article you need books, magazines or websites sound.

Please remember that copyright does not allow to take on other pages of texts literally!

Comprehensibility

The Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia , not a reference book and should also for laymen to understand. If the understanding of a topic requires special knowledge, it should allow the introduction to the layman, categorize the article subject, at least. Treat the simpler aspects of the theme near the beginning and the more difficult at the end of the article.

Terms which are not generally known should you use sparingly as possible. You can avoid a technical term does not explain or to link to it. Do not try to technical terms, for which there is no generally accepted German translation, compulsively einzudeutschen.

Articles should be
  • be as comprehensible as possible, but represent the topic in an appropriate width and depth, and
  • access to the subject as simple as possible (especially in the definition and introduction, as these are generally read first).

Correctness

The Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia and not a collection of assumptions, it is the placement of reliable knowledge. Technical terms should be used if appropriate supporting them in a topic, and can find evidence of this. Good evidence comes from literature and from school or university publications. In general, make sure that the author is knowledgeable of the literature; especially when information from the Internet.
