Teens who love drama and glamor will be drawn to a 1940's themed party. The World War II era was full of uncertainty, yet the parties, music and movies went marching on. Party guests may not know what to expect, so be sure to spell it out on the invitation. Let them know in advance what they should wear and give them at least a hint as to what they will be doing. - Decorate a room with American flags and any red, white and blue Fourth of July decorations. Purchase Uncle Sam posters or reproduction movie posters from the 1940s. Ask guests to come dressed in costume. Invite the guys to wear military-themed clothing or other vintage-style outfits. Have the girls get dolled up with victory rolls in their hair, and wearing a skirt or vintage-style dress. Play 1940s music, especially that of the Big Band era. Serve buffet style refreshments.
- Challenge guests to come up with an act for the variety show. They can tell jokes, sing or whatever they want. Guests can come up with a routine on the spot or have one prepared. Set up a karaoke machine to keep the party going.
Decorate the room like a army base in the South Pacific. Make a backdrop of netting from the fabric store and hang leis and brightly colored streamers from the stage area. Serve cake and punch at the intermission of the show. - Put together a supper club party. Instruct the guests to wear black and white dress clothes. Dress several small tables with white tablecloths and a single rose. Hang a red curtain over the doorway to the room. Have the chairs face a widescreen TV or hang a white sheet and project a black and white movie. For an even more authentic experience, show a black and white classic film like "Casablanca," "Citizen Kane" or "The Maltese Falcon." Have finger foods set out on trays at each individual table.
