Your First Serious Decision in Internet Marketing
Discovering internet marketing is a bit like entering Aladdin's cave with both hands covered in mittens and tied behind your back. You can see all the wonderful jewels, but you just can't figure a way to get them out of the cave and into your life! And the choice - do you choose the jewels of affiliate marketing, or the gold of CPA, or any one of a number of other choices! Do you do a little bit of everything, or throw all your eggs into one basket? (Wow, I'm really getting carried away with the metaphors here!)
Well, OK - the Aladdin metaphor is a bit fanciful - but imagine the frustration... don't you sometimes feel that in the internet business world? I know I did.
Once you discover internet marketing, there are three questions which you need to answer. In this article, I only have time to tackle the first one - but it's a biggy!
1.What do I want from internet marketing?
There is a huge range of rewards you can get from internet marketing; do you just want a blooming good excuse for being on the internet so much of the time? - Fine, then you can justify your existence by earning a bit of pocket money to cover the cost of your fascinating new hobby. This is enough for many people who have good jobs which they enjoy, but just like mucking about on the net in the evenings.
To do this, your best bet is to become an internet expert in whatever you love doing most - no... not that!! Keep it clean, please! I mean something like fishing, dog training, breeding racing pigeons - whatever your particular 'thing' is, you'll be amazed to find that you can actually make money at it!
You might want to earn enough to make a bit of difference in your life - your salary is fine for day to day stuff, but a nice holiday once a year would mean a lot. I think this is where a lot of people fit.
If you're one of these people, then you're going to have to work a bit more seriously at your internet marketing. Find a system that works for you and then stick at it! You will probably need to invest $100 or so for access to the information you need to get you going, and at first, the results might not seem worth the effort - but you'll be surprised how your earnings will add up. The work will get easier as you get more used to it - but if you find you need some time off, the world won't come crashing round your ears. I reckon the rule of thumb is four weeks consistent work then take a step back for a week and see what happens.
Finally, there are those of us who want to earn not only our living, but also a secure and comfortable future through the internet.
This means building a complete internet business - and treating it like a business, not just a hobby. You'll need to invest time and probably money as well. If you look around at other businesses which people own or run, you'll see that they will have had to invest an awful lot of money - either through a loan, or their life savings, just to get started. The beauty of the internet is that you won't need anywhere near this amount of money to get going. But you will still need to make a serious commitment of time and effort before your success is assured.
