Shanghai American Restaurants in the Pudong District

    • Shanghai is one of the most international cities in China.Shanghai by night (The Bund) image by jorisvo from Fotolia.com

Shanghai is one of the most well-developed and Westernized cities in the People’s Republic of China. Shanghai is a center of Chinese diplomacy and international trade, and a great many foreigners from many countries reside, either permanently or temporarily, in Shanghai. The city reflects this diversity with a large number of shops and restaurants catering to people from other countries. Shanghai is organized into districts, and Pudong is one of the most affluent and cosmopolitan. There are several places for the homesick outsider to find American food in Pudong.

    Element Fresh

    • Element Fresh is owned by Sheldon Habinger and former Bostonite Scott Minoie, who started a catering business in Shanghai in 2001. They then branched out into a health food and juice bar, which grew into 10 Element Fresh locations in Shanghai and Beijing. The restaurant now has salads, wraps and various dinner entrees, as well as a few Asian-inspired fusion dishes, like its Vietnamese avocado smoothie. Order barbecue chicken, Caesar salad, Cajun fish wraps, grilled beef tenderloin or ahi tuna linguine. Element Fresh also offers American desserts like carrot cake, banana splits and New York-style cheesecake. The restaurant also serves breakfast and has a children’s menu with macaroni and cheese, fish tacos and grilled cheese sandwiches. Element Fresh also delivers.
