How to Choose Best Cookware Sets

How to choose a great cookware set.

Choosing a good cookware set can be quite difficult for the novice. There are so many out there so how do you know which one to choose. Apart from how they look and feel and their price tag, what are some of the key factors to choosing a great cookware set?

I've created a clear step by step process that will help you along below:

Step 1:

Make sure you have a set of pots and pans that cover the basics such as pots and pans specifically created for stewing, braising and sauteeing.

A good 12 piece cookware set will cover the following:

1-1/2- and 3-quart covered saucepans; take care of everything from oatmeal to bechamel sauce

8- and 10-inch open skillets; great for perfect grilled cheese, hamburgers, and crepes

3-1/2-quart covered saute pan; great for braising meats and cooking fish fillets

8-quart covered stockpot; for stews and soups

steamer insert with lid.

Step 2:

Ensure the materials used are appropriate for your specific cooking needs.

Materials such as stainless steel will ensure the sanitary nature of the pot. It is also a material that doesn't corrode or rust. It also doesn't react with alkaline or acidic material. When combined with an aluminum or copper core, heat is distributed more evenly to ensure that there are no hot spots with cooking.

Design needs to be appropriate. There is no question that a great looking pot will win you over. Some people like to openly display their pots so you want your pots to be matching. Also a pot that is designed heavy enough means you wont have as much warping. So this element is very important when selecting a pot or pan.

Shape of your pot will have a great influence on how well your cookware performs. For example, the rim on the top of the pots of all cuisinart cookware pots means that you'll have a drip free pour of food from your pot.

Handles are also a feature that can not be ignored. A sturdy handle will allow you to grasp your pot more firmly and securely. You also want to ensure that the handles are strongly attached to the pot.

Step 3:

Ensure your pots are functional and of various types rather than the same pot in a different size. Otherwise they will just end up sitting in your cupboard gathering dust. And there is nothing worse than having to run out and purchase a new pot when you've just invested in a brand new cookware set, because the one you have is lacking.
