DIY: Rustic Cake Stand

    • 1). Buy cross-cut wood in varying sizes, depending on your cake size and number of pieces, from craft stores or online. Common wood plaques are sized 5 to 12 inches in diameter and come sanded, cleaned and ready for use.

    • 2). Prepare the tree limb section by cleaning the cut surface of any sawdust or debris. Spread extra-strong wood glue all over the clean wood surface.

    • 3). Attach the back side of the wood plaque to the glued limb section. Press down firmly to secure them together. Use damp cloth to remove excess glue from the sides of the attached wood sections.

    • 4). Use wood clamps to secure the attached wood sections together tightly. Leave it alone for about an hour to dry. Alternatively, use a heavy stack of books or a heavy small, coffee table to push the two pieces together. Place the books or table on top of the wooden plaque and leave to dry.

    • 5). Create as many pedestals as needed. Put decorative paper liners on top of the pedestals before placing the cake. If you choose to go for a barer, more rustic look though, use a food-safe wood sealer to coat the pedestal's surface before placing the cake directly on top of it. Or use paper liner the exact size of your cake so it doesn't show from underneath.

    • 6). Add decorative trimmings of fresh flowers, leaves or moss, if you prefer. Natural elements used to adorn the cake stands accentuate your rustic wedding motif.
