THE CULTURE of HALLOWEEN
Halloween is a traditional festival in western countries which is explained that the eve of all saint day in dictionary. October 31st was the eve of the Celtic new year. The present-day Irish, Welsh and Scottish people were the offspring of the Celts. On this day ghosts walked and mingled with the living, or so the Celts thought.
October 31 was no longer the last day of the year when Christianity spread throughout Ireland. In children's opinion, Halloween is a grand celebration for them. €Trick or treat€ would be heard often in Halloween. "Ghosts" went from door to door asking for treats, or else a trick would be played on the owners of the house. As the immigration of millions of Irish people in the 1840s, the tradition came with them to the United States.
In the past, the townspeople baked food all that day and when night fell they dressed up and tried to resemble the souls of the dead hoping that the ghosts would leave peacefully before midnight of the new year.
It is the origin of masquerade parties which is the form that adults celebrate Halloween. More and more adults dress up like historical or political figures and join in masquerade parties. In larger cities, costumed children and their parents gather at shopping malls early in the evening. Stores and businesses give parties with games and treats for the children. Teenagers enjoy costume dances at their schools and the more outrageous the costume the better! It is expected that certain pranks such as soaping car windows and tipping over garbage cans.
People not only enjoy party and pranks but also collect money to buy food and medicine for needy children around the world. For such grand festival, cell phones which can capture pictures are indispensable.
