How to Fight the New Year's Blues

    • 1

Surround yourself with family and those who care about you the most. Try not to spend the holidays alone. Even if you feel the urge to stay indoors, get outside, breathe the fresh air and stay close to those that you love.

    • 2). Focus on the positive for the upcoming year. While there could be financial and economical hardships, pending illnesses or even recent deaths, try to remember what you have going for you. Be thankful for the things that you have in life, such as a roof over your head, family and friends who love you and food to keep you healthy

    • 3). Write a list of positive New Year's resolutions such as saving extra money, staying in touch with friends and family and keeping a positive outlook even when life gets you down. Type these out and frame them. Keep them in a place where you will see them every day as a reminder.

Host a celebratory New Year's party for your friends and family. It can be a large or small gathering. Throw the kind of party that will be most comfortable to you. Play everybody's favorite tunes, serve your favorite foods and ring in the new year with those who you care about the most. Gather everyone to share positive memories of the passing year, as well as what they would like to see happen in the upcoming year.

Keep a list of contacts that you can refer to when you are feeling down. Let your friends and family coach you through the tough times and any doubts you have about the upcoming the year. Speak with a pastor or counselor if necessary. Always have a lifeline nearby that you can call upon. Stay positive and share plenty of hugs with those that you love--including a pet.
