The Withdrawal Rules of Chase National Bank
- When a deposit is made into your account, generally the funds are available for withdrawal on the next business day. Therefore, if a deposit is made on a Friday, the funds will not clear and be available for ATM (or in-person) withdrawal until the following Monday. However, this rule applies only to deposits from Chase accounts. Cash deposits are available for withdrawal the same day.
- Chase has different withdrawal rules for funds deposited into your account from accounts outside of Chase bank. Up to $100 of deposits are available for withdrawal on the business day after the deposit. This applies to non-chase "local" and "nonlocal" checks. (Local checks begin with routing numbers 02, and 22, while nonlocal checks begin with other numbers.) Up to $400 of nonlocal checks are available for withdrawal on the second business day after deposit, while up to $7,500 is available on the third business day. The entire deposit is available for withdrawal on the fourth business day.
- Even when Chase makes funds available for withdrawal, there is still the chance that deposits may be returned. This means that the funds deposited turned out to be unavailable, even though Chase made the money available in your account. According to Chase's terms and conditions, "It can take
weeks, even months, for counterfeits or other issues to be discovered. If an item is returned
by another bank or not paid, we'll subtract the amount of the item and the Deposited
Item Returned fee from your account balance and let you know. When your balance is
reduced as a result of a returned or unpaid item, your account could become overdrawn." - There are two main ways to withdraw funds from your Chase checking or savings accounts. The most convenient option is to withdraw funds from an ATM machine. This option is particularly helpful if you need to obtain money when a local Chase branch is closed. Alternatively, you can withdraw money by visiting your local Chase branch during business hours. Before visiting a local branch, however, be sure that the clearance times for deposits have passed to ensure that the money will be available.
