Indoor Structures For Indoor Cats - The Best Options For Apartments
Did I mention that I live in an apartment with three cats? Yeah, that is actually quite a few cats to have roaming in a two bedroom apartment, one that I share with my wife.
We get by pretty well, and don't have too many crowding issues, but I think it's because we've learned how to give out cats places to hang out that are not in the way of what have going on.
In the living room, we have set up a cat tree in front of the main balcony window.
The cat tree was something that we had wanted to get for a long time, but we decided to finally take the plunge and spend some money on a nice one.
It actually wasn't too expensive, but it was a huge upgrade for our three cats.
They finally had some place of their own to hang out and do their thing.
They absolutely love the fact that it is tall.
They like to climb way up to the top of it and sit and look down, it's 6 feet tall.
This is obviously the most interested structure in our apartment, so it tends to keep the cats from trying to climb on other stuff that we don't like them climbing.
Another thing that we like to do provide them with some structure is we try to give them good perches to sit on in front of windows.
My wife has a few plants in our apartment, all by windows.
We always make sure that the platforms that the plants are sitting on have enough room for the cats to sit there too.
The cats like to sit and look out the windows of course, and providing them with structures to sit on and easily do so really helps in avoiding battling with them to keep them off of unwanted spots on our furniture.
The trick is to figure out what the cats want, and then give it to them in ways that are not disruptive to us.
We found that cats love to have structure, so it's best to give it to them and give them their own structures to live on so that they don't bother with the rest of our stuff.
We used to have to deal with cats on cupboards, cats climbing on top of doors, cats sleeping on all the couches, and more.
And now that we have given them a nice structure of their own in a 3 tier cat tree, we just don't really have to worry about those battles anymore.
