Cat Picture of the Week: Reece

This is my big girl Reece. She is a mixed breed Maine Coon from what I can tell. She is a rescued feral kitty from the campus where I work. She was around 7 months old when she came to live with me and my other rescue kitty Oreo. Reece was very shy and nervous at first as was expected. I rescued two feral kitten that are Reece's 1/2 sisters Reba and Reece. This was about 4 months after I rescued Reece.

Reece became a very social loving girl once the kitten came to live with us. I have had her for almost 2 years and my life wouldn't be the same without her.

She will sit on my lap or lay next to me. When she is near me and wants my attention, she head butts my arm or hand. She calls out to me with a soft cry to tell me she wants me to come to her. Sometimes it is simply because she just wants some treats!

I was able to train Reece to sit and take her treats from my hand. She even learned to sit and wait her turn while the other girls took their treats from me. She loves the other cats she lives with. Reece will groom the other girls, she sleeps with them and it looks like she hugs them when she lays with the big paws around them.

Reece loves to play with toys. Her favorite is mice covered in rope with feather tails. They don't last too long around her. She bats them around with her big paws, throw them in the air and catches them in her mouth. I find them in pieces on my bed often.

Reece is a happy girl.

She looks mean but she purrs so much. She will purr when I pet her or groom her. She even purrs when she is just sitting or laying with me. Reece is my furry gentle giant. I am so glad I took her in - she is my furchild!

Reece's picture will also appear in another new photo gallery on this site. I was charmed by her beauty and appreciated that Niki described her personality in such loving detail. My Cat of the Week photos are chosen from pictures submitted for the various albums on my site. You may submit a photo using the Photo Submittal Guidelines.
