How to Use Pimple Remedies
- 1). Look for treatments that use sulfur as an active ingredient. There are adult acne products such as masks that contain sulfur, as well as lotions that can be used to spot-treat pimples. Sulfur formulas remove dead skin cells that clog up skin and cause acne. These formulas can overly dry skin, however, so read the package directions and use as indicated.
- 2). Go the natural route and try an herbal remedy. Several studies cited by The New York Times have shown tea tree oil to be an effective pimple remedy when applied topically, thanks to its antibacterial qualities. Tea tree oil is applied by dabbing it onto the acne and letting it sit to reduce the inflammation. Be cautious if using this remedy if you have eczema or sensitive skin, as this may cause a rash or blistering.
- 3). Use a homemade aspirin mask as a pimple remedy. Dr. Mehmet Oz notes that aspirin contains salicylic acid, which is a beta-hydroxy acid. This acid is used as a peel that eliminates pimples. To use aspirin on your face, crush up about a half dozen tablets and make a paste by mixing the aspirin with fresh lemon juice. Dab the solution on pimples and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. Remove with a tissue dipped in water and baking soda.
- 4). Try benzoyl peroxide. This is one of the most popular pimple remedies and is generally the most successful. Benzoyl peroxide works by killing bacteria on the skin, removing excess oil and eliminated dead skin cells. You can apply benzoyl peroxide in a variety of different ways, including face washes, leave-on masks and spot-treating lotions. People with sensitive skin should consult their physician, as benzoyl peroxide can dry out skin if used in excess.
