Are you sure you want to Co-sign?

For some reason unknown to our family, our son who had been addicted to drugs for years decided to take a trip to New Jersey to "find himself".  His goal was to "get clean" the hard way - cold turkey.  One night as the withdrawal symptoms became too hard for him to bear he decided to rob a liquor store and was apprehended and brought to jail.  He requested assistance from bail bonds Morris County.  NJ bail bonds are available and are nothing to take lightly.

When the NJ bail bonds representative came down to the local jail house, after the interview with the prisoner he knew that this would be a hard case to try and get a low bond from this judge.  It had not been his first time or offense.  His bail was set high and he provided his parents phone number who he knew would co-sign for the bond.  The father made the deal and they put their second home up as collateral at the insistence of the wife.  The paperwork had been faxed to the NJ bail bonds office and the next day the client was released and heading home.  His court date was scheduled for six weeks later.

In the meantime, the parents kept in contact with Bail Bonds Morris County since they knew they had a lot to lose.  Their son had checked into a drug rehabilitation center and was getting clean once again.  This was a story that had been told many times.  The court date was coming up soon and the son was coming home too.  Everyone was sure this was going to work out.

The NJ bail bond called the son to remind him what would happen if he did not show up in court in a couple of days.  After dinner that night the son took off and did not return.  The court date came; the parents, the lawyer, and the bail bond Morris County representative showed up but the client did not show up. Of course, at that point the NJ bail bond was responsible and paid for the bond owed to the court.  This is the risk the NJ bail bond company assumes when they accept the client.

The proceedings were started to collect the collateral the parents put up since they co-signed the papers with the NJ bail bond.  Heartbroken, the wife walked away as the bail bondsman was telling the father he would go forward and try to find their son to bring him in as a fugitive and take further legal actions, something the company would act on.

The parents were able to secure a loan to pay the amount owed to the NJ bail bond representative to keep their home and the son was never heard from again.  Be careful if you ever sign a bail bond for someone and that includes a family member.
