How to Fix a Waterlogged Well

    • 1). Turn the power off to the pump. If the pump does not have a power disconnect, flip the pump breaker in the breaker box or throw the main breaker in the breaker box to the "Off" position.

    • 2). Attach the garden hose to the drain valve on the bottom of the well tank, with the tank located under the well cover and in front of the pump assembly where it enters the ground.

    • 3). Open the valve and drain the tank until the water stops running out.

    • 4). Shut the valve on the tank, and remove the hose.

    • 5). Restore power to the well by flipping the breaker or switch back to the "On" position.

    • 6). Listen to see if the pump is still cutting on and off. If the pump does not cut on and off, you have restored the correct 40 to 50 pounds of pressure into the bladder of the well tank, which fixes the well. If the pump continues to cut on and off, you will need to replace the tank.
