Missouri Predator Hunting Regulations

    Coyotes

    • Coyotes are largely viewed as a nuisance and the only limits on hunting coyotes is just before and during the spring turkey season. From April 1, until the spring turkey season begins, coyotes may only be hunted during daylight hours, and no coyote hunting is allowed during the spring turkey season. During any other time of the year there are no limits on the number of coyotes that may be taken or possessed.

    Feral Hogs

    • Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and cause soil erosion and silt in streams. Due to these tendencies, combined with rapid reproduction rates, the Missouri Department of Conservation allows hunters to kill as many feral hogs as possible. In fact, the "Summary of Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations" encourages hunters who see feral hogs while hunting other prey to shoot the hogs on site. Hunters who accidentally kill a pig that someone claims ownership to are not liable for the loss if hunting on public land or on private land with permission.

    Other Predators

    • The other Missouri predators that may be hunted all share the same season. These predators include bobcats, badgers, red foxes, and gray foxes. The "Missouri Wildlife Code" establishes the season for these predators. These animals may be taken in any number during the season. However, bobcats must be taken to a Conservation Department agent for registration or tagging prior to February 15 before selling or mounting the animal.

    Permit

    • Nearly every hunter in the state is required to have, and carry on them while hunting, a Missouri Hunting Permit. There are a few exceptions to this rule. Hunters aged 65 or over may hunt predators without a license but must have proof of age and residence. Hunters age 15 and younger may hunt predators without a license if accompanied by a licensed hunter over the age of 17. Also, Missouri resident landowners, as well as renters who live on the leased land, may hunt predators on the land they own or live on without a license.
