How to Build a PVC Flagpole

    • 1). Drill a hole into the side of a PVC pipe 4 inches from the end. Slide a bolt through a washer and then through this hole. Reach into the pipe and slide another washer onto the bolt inside the pipe and tighten a nut onto the bolt.

    • 2). Attach a small, double-sided metal snap clip to the outside of the bolt. Attach your pulley to the other end of the snap clip.

    • 3). Scuff this end of the PVC pipe and the inside of a PVC cap with sandpaper. Coat both of these surfaces with PVC primer and then with PVC glue. Slide the cap onto the end of the pipe.

    • 4). Cut an 8-foot section off the other PVC pipe. Line your T-cleat onto a spot 1 foot from the end. Line the cleat lengthwise and mark the position of the bolt holes. Drill the holes.

    • 5). Slide a bolt through a washer, then through one hole in the cleat and then through the pipe. Reach inside the pipe and slide a washer onto the bolt and then thread on a nut and tighten it. Attach your other bolt in the same manner.

    • 6). Scuff the outside of the end of the PVC pipe where the T-cleat is mounted. Scuff the inside of one side of the PVC collar joint. Coat both of these surfaces with PVC primer and then with PVC glue. Slide the end of the pipe into the collar joint.

    • 7). Scuff the inside of the other end of the collar joint and the outside of the unused end of your first PVC pipe. Coat both of these surfaces with PVC primer and then with PVC glue. Slide the end of the pipe into the collar joint, twist the pieces so that the cleat and the pulley are aligned.

    • 8). Thread your rope through the pulley and tie the ends in a knot. Tie a 2-inch loop in the rope and attach a snap clip. Measure your flag's height, make another 2-inch loop that distance up the rope and attach another snap clip. Tie off the excess rope on your T-cleat.

    • 9). Dig a hole 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide. Stand your flagpole in this hole so that the pulley is on top. Push 12 to 18 inches of dirt back into the hole and pack it down.

Pour both bags of concrete mix into the hole around the pole and add the recommended amount of water. Let the concrete set overnight.

Snap the top eyelet of your flag to the top snap clip on the rope and the bottom snap clip to the bottom eyelet. Pull the rope to raise the flag.
