How to Install a Whirlpool Dishwasher
- 1). Connect the power cord from the dishwasher installation kit to the dishwasher if the unit will be plugged in. Strip ends of the black, white and ground wires on power cord. Ground wire may be a green wire or plain copper. Locate the connection underneath the dishwasher and twist white wires from the dishwasher to the white wires from the power cord using an approved wire nut. Repeat with the black wire and the ground wire.
- 2). Inspect pre-existing fresh water and sewer connections for cracking or leaking. Replace any worn parts prior to installation of the Whirlpool dishwasher.
Add new fresh water and sewer lines if a dishwasher was not previously installed. Installation of new lines requires a licensed plumber or someone with prior plumbing experience and skill. - 3). Locate the drain connection on the dishwasher. On a Whirlpool dishwasher this can be found on the back or underside of the dishwasher. Attach the drain hose---included with the dishwasher---to the sewer connection. Make sure that hose is on firmly. Secure the hose with a screwdriver clamp or squeeze clamp.
- 4). Push or roll the unit under the cabinet to level the dishwasher. Four adjustable leveling screws are located underneath to level front to back and side to side. Adjust height and level by unscrewing these to raise the dishwasher or screwing them in to lower the dishwasher. Pull the dishwasher back out.
Install the trim kit. Depending on the style of trim it will either be affixed to the dishwasher or around the opening. - 5). Locate the fresh water connection under a toe kick cover on the front of dishwasher. Included with the Whirlpool dishwasher is a small brass fitting. Install the fitting onto the dishwasher at the fresh water connection. Connect steel braided hose or other fresh water connection onto the brass fitting and tighten down. Attach the other end of the hose to the hot water supply line underneath the kitchen sink. Be sure to use thread sealer on all connections to prevent leaks. Turn water on and look for water leaks at connections and along the hose.
- 6). Slowly push or roll the dishwasher under the cabinets. Watch all connections while rolling the dishwasher into place to keep them from kinking or being pinched. Check level again and adjust if necessary.
- 7). Locate the two metal anti-tip tabs included with the dishwasher. Use screws of the appropriate material and size to install the tabs into the bottom of the countertop.
Run the dishwasher through a complete cycle with no dishes or soap. Without removing the dishwasher, inspect the fresh water line and sewer hose for leaks. Look under the dishwasher for any dripping water. Screw on the toe-kick cover by starting all four screws first and then tightening.
