- 1). Write the date in the area provided at the top of the check. Check styles vary, but the date is typically at the top right or left of the check.
- 2). Write your name in the "Pay to the order of:" area of the check. You can also write the word "Cash" instead of your name.
- 3). Write the amount of cash in its numerical value. Use the rectangular box on the same line as the "Pay to the order of:" section of the check. Use a decimal point to separate dollars and cents.
- 4). Write the amount of the check in words in the area below the "Pay to the order of:" section of the check. For instance, a $10 check for cash would be written as "Ten and 00/100."
- 5). Write your signature on the signature line provided.
- 6). Take the check to your bank to cash it. Let the teller know you want to cash the check and then endorse it in front of the teller. Provide your identification when asked.
