Troubleshooting When an Amazon Kindle Won't Display

    Device Power

    • Check that the Kindle is correctly charged and is switched on. If necessary, connect the supplied charger to a power outlet – the indicator light should illuminate to show the device is charging. After a couple of minutes, unplug the Kindle again and reset it by moving and holding the power switch for 20 seconds before releasing it. Power up the Kindle to check if the device now operates as it should.

    Screen Issues

    • If you are experiencing issues with a display that is partially showing content or which shows lines on the screen, there may be a problem with electromagnetic interference from a nearby device. As before, the best course of action is to try a device reset to see if this resolves the issue – move and hold the power switch for 20 seconds, then release it. The Kindle should boot up as normal.

    Faulty Screen

    • If you have checked that the Kindle is fully charged, is switched on and is not suffering from electromagnetic interference and the display is still not working, it's likely that the screen is defective. Kindles bought from Amazon are covered by a limited one-year warranty that varies depending on the type of Kindle you have purchased – individual warranties are listed on the Amazon Kindle Support site so you can locate the relevant one.

    Further Information

    • For persistent screen problems, contact Amazon customer service directly through the Kindle Support pages on the website. You will need to describe the issue in more detail and provide purchasing information in order to work out if you can claim a repair or replacement under warranty. If the screen has not been damaged by accident, misuse, neglect, fire or other external causes, alterations, repair, or commercial use and was bought within the last year then you should be able to get the issue fixed by Amazon.
