Workshop Power Tool Storage Ideas

    Shallow Drawer Chest

    • While deep drawers are not ideal for storing tools, shallow drawers allow you to lay tools out easily and stow them away effectively. Purchase or build a chest with shallow drawers for your tool storage. Seek drawers of one foot or shallower to ensure that you don't have wasted space in your drawers. To prevent tool damage, line your drawers with felt or another nonabrasive material.

    Tool Hook Pegboard

    • Store your tools in plain sight by creating a tool hook pegboard. To create your board, hang a sheet of pegboard securely from a wall in your workplace. Purchase strong hooks to attach to the pegboard, and position them to hold your tools. After arranging your tools in the fashion you design, trace around each with a black permanent marker to mark its place on the tool storage wall.

    Bagged Tool Hooks

    • By bagging your tools before stowing them, you can prevent possible power tool damage. To use this organizational system, purchase or sew a fabric bag for each of your tools. Place a drawstring at the top of each bag using a sturdy nylon cord. Hang hooks across your workroom wall, and suspend one bag from each of these hooks. To make the bag storage method even more convenient, label the bags with the name of the tools they contain so that you can find each tool easily.

    Cord Wrap Organizer

    • Prevent having to untangle unruly power tool cords by purchasing cord wraps. Buy wraps intended for extension cords or Christmas lights, and secure your power tool cords around them. By wrapping up your cords before stowing your tools, you not only make it easier to prevent cord tangles, but you also create a workplace that appears better organized.
