How to Spray Paint Side View Mirrors Metal

    • 1). Apply tape and newspaper around the edges of the review mirror. This will help keep the paint off of the rest of the car. Make sure to completely cover the nearby windows, as well as the actual mirror. Paint on glass can be difficult to remove.

    • 2). Place a chemical paint stripper on the paint of the review mirror (you can purchase this at any home improvement store) using a paint brush. Make sure to wear goggles and gloves to protect your skin from the stripper and its fumes. Place clear plastic over the mirror to lock in the fumes and wait for the stated time (found on the paint stripper's casing).

    • 3). Remove the plastic and begin to chip off the paint using a putty knife.

    • 4). Use a metalic spray paint. There are several different spray paints out there that look like metal, such as silver, gold, iron or bronze. Spray the mirror at least 6 inches from the surface. If you spray too close, the paint will not go on evenly.

    • 5). Allow the first coat to dry. This will take several hours. Once dry, apply another coat of spray paint. Continue with the light coats (usually around three) until the mirror is completely painted without any blemishes or uneven paint.
