Planning a Vacation to Cabo San Lucas

    Hotels and Resorts

    • Cabo San Lucas has a plethora of hotels and resorts. Rooms at these locations can range from less than $100 to thousands of dollars; reserving a room early can help keep the cost of rooms down. Reserve your hotel at least a month in advance to allow yourself more choices.

October-May is Cabo San Lucas' high tourist season. The humpback whale migration is in full swing from December through March, and major events such as the Rhythm, Color and Flavor of Cabo San Lucas Festival (December) create a large demand for hotel rooms, further increasing importance for early reservations. Hotel and resort prices are costlier during the high season. If the time of the year is of no importance, June-September is the slow season with more available rooms and lower prices.

    Flights

    • Flights are one of the important factors in planning your trip to Cabo San Lucas. Try to get your tickets as early as possible. Airline tickets increase in price the closer you get to your departure date. There are many websites to help you determine the best tickets for your trip. Expedia, Travelocity and Cheaptickets are all comprehensive sites that search through a database of airlines, prices and departures. These sites will do much of the work for you so you can focus on other aspects of planning your trip.

Things to Bring and What to Wear

    • Cabo San Lucas is a beach resort; therefore, there are certain items you should bring with you. Sunscreen, sunglasses and reading materials are important items to bring when soaking up the sun on the pristine beaches of Cabo San Lucas. The shops are very tourist-friendly; however, the prices aren't cheap. Remember, sunscreen should be stored in your checked baggage; it is not allowed on carry-on bags because of government restrictions on liquids in planes.
Bring a digital camera to record your vacation. Unlike disposable cameras, a digital camera can be loaded with memory that can contain thousands of pictures, eliminating the hassle of bringing several cameras.

The temperatures in Cabo San Lucas can be warm year-round, with highs in the 80s in the winter and in the 90s in the summer. Temperatures can drop to the low 60s at night during the winter. For the most part, pack clothes like bathing suits, shorts, T-shirts, sundresses and lightweight pants; these are the most comfortable clothes for the particular climate. If you are traveling in winter, pack some jeans, a light jacket and a few long-sleeve shirts for nighttime outings. Sandals and tennis shoes are the most useful types of shoes; pack your favorite pairs for comfortable walking.
