Nikon D800 Camera Release Date and Rumors

The Nikon D800 will soon be released, although it is hard to pin down an exact release date at this moment. Nothing has been released in terms of a date, but as soon as one is, we will update you.

This new camera from Nikon will replace the D700, which was released on the market in the month of July in 2008. The D700 is a great camera and only the second camera by Nikon to feature a full frame single lens reflex, better known as an SLR. The D700 was a big seller and came out with the price of just under three thousand dollars. The prices have since dropped substantially, so you can pick one up now for just over two thousand dollars American. This is still a top of the line camera, but since it has been on the market for over 3 years, it is time to upgrade the camera and thus time for the Nikon D800 to come out.

Big Upgrades Expected for the Nikon D800

A lot has changed in terms of technology and in the photography world, so the camera will get a huge upgrade, but expect some of the overall features and functions to stay the same. The previous version was only 12.1 megapixels, so expect it to upgrade to at least 20 in the newer version. It needs to upgrade a lot in order to compete with the expected release of the Canon 5D Mark III. The competition between Nikon and Canon is great for consumers, as the products that come out are increasingly advanced for lower costs. It allows most everyone to use the same technology that used to be only obtained by professionals some short time ago.

All in all, stay on the lookout for the Nikon D800 and get ready for a new camera launch within the next 6 months. Hopefully we will see this camera before the holiday season, but only time will tell.

The end result is that FX lenses cost more than DX. The cost difference can sometimes be several times higher. For example, a tele-zoom: the DX 55-300mm VR sells for $360 while the FX 70-300mm VR sells for $525. But if you want faster glass, the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II is $2,200. Prime lenses also share this difference: The 35mm f/1.8 DX currently sells for $200, while a slightly faster FX version 35mm f/1.4 sells for over $1,600. (One might note however that a 35mm FX lens will act like a 50mm on a DX camera, so you could get a similar result on FX using a less-expensive 50mm FX lens.)
