Christmas Treasure Hunt
Last Christmas I had a difficult time trying to decide what to get my husband for Christmas.
After several days of thinking and researching, I decided to pay for work on his tattoo.
It was something that he had been putting off for this home renovation project or that vacation, and I knew that he would love it.
Unfortunately, there really wasn't anything to wrap up but an appointment slip.
I didn't want to just hand him a card while the kids were opening their presents.
How boring.
I thought about the age old, hide a smaller box inside a bigger one, inside a bigger one and so on until you had a huge present with a lot of paper, but I really wanted to do something different.
That left out just putting it in his stocking.
One thing about Ethan is that he loves to go around the house before Christmas trying to find where I have hidden his presents.
I don't know if he would actually ever peek if he found them, but he sure has a great time making me think he would.
I decided to try a treasure hunt.
At first I thought it would be really hard and take a lot of time to figure out.
With the book though, it was really easy! I picked the rooms I wanted him to go to, decided on 5 room clues, a beginning clue and ending clue, and hid them in the rooms.
It was easier than trying to hide presents because he wasn't looking for little slips of paper.
I set up a beginning clue in the card I gave him and he was off looking for the next one.
I even hid one in the pocket of our daughter and he had to chase down each of our three children to find which one of them it was hidden on.
A little later, he found clothes in the dryer to put on and had to wear them for the rest of the hunt.
Dad wearing a feather boa? That was enough to send the kids into fits of laughter.
I was able to find clues that were exciting for the family and yet, wouldn't embarrass him too badly.
The kids hung on to his every word as he read the clues aloud and followed him around to see what he was going to do next.
I stood back and dutifully took pictures for posterity.
Hehe.
It was a lot of fun to watch him do what was on the clues and I think the kids enjoyed it even more than I did.
Well, maybe.
He was laughing the whole way through as well.
The whole point of this was to give a present in a way that was exciting and fun and I think we succeeded in making his Christmas a memorable one.
Next time I think I will use the box idea and then just hide the first clue in the smallest box.
I recommend it to anyone looking for a new way to give a present.
A way that involves everyone in the room instead of just the person for whom the present is intended.
Great times!!!
