How to Change Front Shocks on a Dodge Truck
- 1). Lift the front of the vehicle, using the jack, and secure it on jack stands. Make sure that the vehicle is completely secure on the jack stands before you crawl underneath it. Remove the front wheels, using the tire iron, and place them to the side, out of the workspace.
- 2). Clamp the vice grips onto the top shaft of the shock on the frame and turn the nut, using an open-end wrench. Once the bolt is off, remove the vice grips.
- 3). Unbolt the bottom of the shock from the lower control arm, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then slide the shock out of the lower control arm.
- 4). Slide the replacement shock up through the lower control arm and bolt it to the lower control arm, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Clamp the vice grips onto the top of the shock and bolt the top shaft of the strut to the frame, using an open-end wrench.
- 5). Repeat steps 2-4 for the other side. Then reinstall the tires and lower the vehicle off the jack stands, using the jack.
