How do I Install Delco Durastop Brake Pads on a 1997 C5 Corvette?

    • 1). Park the Corvette on level ground. Put the car in "Park" or first gear. Remove the ignition key.

    • 2). Loosen the lug nuts on each wheel a half turn using the breaker bar and the 19-mm socket

    • 3). Raise the Corvette using the floor jack. Position the jack stands under the vehicle and lower it onto the stands.

    • 4). Remove the lug nuts from each wheel using the 19-mm socket and ratchet. Separate each wheel from the vehicle and store in a safe place.

    • 5). Loosen the lower caliper bolt and remove the upper bolt with a 15-mm wrench. Rotate the caliper down to expose the brake pads.

    • 6). Remove the brake pads from the caliper and place them on the ground in the order they were installed in the caliper. Place the new brake pads next to the old ones to ensure correct installation. Transfer any shims from the old pads to the new shims using needle-nose pliers if required.

    • 7). Use the brake pad spreader to press the pistons into the caliper before attempting to install the new brake pads.

    • 8). Install the new brake pads into the caliper and rotate the caliper upward. Reinstall the caliper pivot bolt removed earlier and tighten both caliper bolts with the 15-mm wrench. Use an 18-mm wrench to keep the assembly from rotating.

    • 9). Reinstall the tires and tighten each lug nut using the socket and ratchet. Raise the car with the floor jack and remove the jack stands.

    • 10

Adjust the torque wrench to 90 foot-lbs. and tighten each lug nut.
