Tips For Checking Used Bulldozers And Other Construction Equipment

Anyone needing construction equipment will need a bulldozer at some point. These machines are invaluable in the construction industry. Used bulldozers can be found easily in any number of places. However, there are a number of things to keep in mind when buying one so that you get a working machine for your money.

First, as with any piece of equipment, you need to understand what you will need for the job. It may be possible to buy a large full sized bulldozer for relatively little money, but is it needed for the job? Just because the price is right does not mean it is the right piece of equipment for your needs. This is important so that you can avoid having machinery, and spending your money on it, that you cannot use. You will not use the same bulldozer for gardening you would to clear trees.

The blade is also an important piece of the machine to consider. Make sure the width, height and attachment are appropriate to your need. A blade closer to the body of the machine will respond better to the operator. The trade for response is less area visible in front of the cab.

Tracks and tires are another aspect to consider. For timber work rubber tires are best. They are also used in surface mining and construction when speed is needed. Used bulldozers with tracks, or crawlers, give the machine maneuverability on most any surface. Having wider tracks also increases the machines ability to move over uncompressed ground without sinking.

The engine should be checked to in order to ensure that it is in working the way it should be. If the engine does not work, you need to make sure you can repair it before buying the machine. Likewise, if there are any hitches or other problems in the engine you will want to know about them before you set to work. The same can be said for the equipment that moves the blade. Making sure the lever move smooth and are responsive can save time and money before a job starts.
