How to Put a Logo in My Garage Concrete Floor
- 1). Sweep away any dirt from the concrete floor with a stiff-bristled broom. Mop the cleared surface using a pH-neutral cleanser and a rope mop. Switch to a scrub brush and scrub off any oil from the floor with a concrete degreaser. Rinse off the concrete with clean water, and then wait about three hours for the floor to dry.
- 2). Test the floor for sealant by sprinkling drops of water onto the surface. Watch for any beading of the water on the concrete; this indicates that sealant is present. Remove the sealant from the area of the floor that you intend to place the logo by brushing the surface with a layer of paint remover. Wait about five minutes for the remover to penetrate the sealant, and then scrape it off with a putty knife. Mop the surface with the pH-neutral cleanser again to remove any remnants of the paint remover.
- 3). Cover the logo area with the concrete etching solution. The etching solution textures the concrete to make it more readily accept the epoxy. Scrub the solution into the concrete using the broom, and then rinse the concrete off with clean water. Allow the floor to dry overnight.
- 4). Place masking tape around the logo area to protect the rest of the floor from the epoxy paint.
- 5). Create a vinyl stencil of your logo that allows you to place both a background color as well as a foreground color over your floor. Use a PC with a graphics design program to create the logo, then print it out using a vinyl printer. Cut away the parts of the logo that you don't intend to use from the printed vinyl sheet with a utility knife. Apply a layer of adhesive to the rear of the stencil and allow it to dry to a tacky state where it's still slightly sticky.
- 6). Cover the logo section with epoxy primer the same color as your logo's foreground color. Roll the primer onto the concrete with a low-nap paint roller. Allow the primer to dry for two hours. and then place the logo onto the garage floor surface over the primer so that when you pull the logo off, the primer acts as your primary logo color.
- 7). Cover the primer and logo stencil with a topcoat of epoxy paint, creating the background color for your logo. Roll the paint into place with a low-nap paint roller, and then allow the paint to dry overnight.
- 8). Pull up the stencil from the floor. This will reveal your two-colored logo. Use a leaf blower to blow away any paint chips loosened from the top of the stencil, and then sweep the chips from the area.
- 9). Cover the logo with a sealant containing a non-skid additive. Roll the sealer over the logo, and then allow the logo to continue drying for 48 hours before walking over the area.
