How to Remove Lavatory Drain Plugs

    • 1). Actuate the lever or bar that opens the drain, pushing the drain up. Grab the edges of the plug piece and pull up to remove it from the drain.

    • 2). Insert a slip-joint pliers' handles down the drain, past the plug. Insert a large screwdriver's shaft into the drain as well, with the screwdriver sitting between the pliers handles.

    • 3). Hold the handle of the screwdriver and turn it counterclockwise, using the shaft portion of the screwdriver and the handles of the slip-joint pliers like a lever system to turn the plug counterclockwise as well. Continue applying as much force as possible until the plug starts to turn.

    • 4). Turn the drain plug counterclockwise until it comes free from the drain completely.
