Straight or Curved Stair Lifts?

Adding stair lifts to interior or exterior staircases is an economical approach to making your home or commercial building accessible.
If you have been looking for a stair lift, you likely have come across two basic models, straight and curved.
If you are unsure about the type of stair lift best for your property, what are the benefits of each? In general, chair stair lifts have a standard set of features.
All chairs come with a swivel seat and most fold up, and all devices have emergency switches, or sensors.
As mobility devices, these lifts use a track system to move an individual up or down a staircase, operate with direct or battery power, and typically support up to 350 pounds or more.
When the user needs to go up or down, he or she presses a button for the chair to move along the track.
Straight models have all of these features and align easily with staircases of the same shape.
As affordable products overall, straight lifts address various physical or structural needs.
Compact models are built to fit inside narrow staircases, while outdoor stair lifts have weather-proof covers that withstand all seasons and conditions.
Individuals needing to move a wheelchair or motorized scooter from one floor to another can benefit from a wheelchair platform lift, while commercial buildings expecting clients or patients of various sizes should be prepared to accommodate all with an extra large lift.
While using a similar operating mechanism, curved stair lifts are custom built to fit the exact turns and angles of your staircase.
A custom-built product, however, has upsides and downsides.
On one hand, the product has an exact fit but, on the other, a custom stair chair lift costs three to four times more than a standard straight model and takes longer to be put together.
If a curved lift is better for your home or commercial building, the stairway needs to be measured first, and this information, along with pictures, is given to a manufacturer, which produces the custom product in four to eight weeks.
Installation ends up taking six to eight hours.
Stair lifts are necessary in various personal and commercial instances.
At home, stairs become a hazard to the elderly, and climbing them increases an individual's risk of an accident, such as a fall.
The stairs also become a hindrance to the elderly or disabled, and without proper access, the second floor of a home or building is cut off.
