What Size ATV Tires Can You Use for a 1999 220 Bayou?

    Stock Tire Sizes

    • The front stock tires on a Kawasaki Bayou 220 are 21 inches tall and eight inches wide. Rear stock tires are 22 inches tall and 10 inches wide. Replacing these tires with tires of equal size and performance characteristics is recommended by Kawasaki. and does not affect the ATV's performance.

    "Plus-One" Tire Sizes

    • Installing "plus-one" tires means you are installing a taller tire. In this case, the additional inch will not significantly impact the Bayou's handling characteristics. While not recommended by the manufacturer, there will be no clearance issues with using plus-one tire sizes.

    Plus-Two Tire Sizes

    • "Plus-two" tire sizes is two inches taller than the stock tire. These tires may require a wider rim size, and could affect the ATV's handling. At two inches taller, the Bayou 220 will be more prone to tipping when turning at high speeds. When the suspension is fully compressed during riding, the tires may also rub against the top of the fenders.

    Plus-Three Tire Sizes

    • "Plus-three" tire sizes will raise the Bayou 220 by three inches. This will compromise the ATV's suspension clearance. The Bayou 220's turning radius will also be increased by several feet, due to the tires rubbing against the frame. Plus-three tire sizes require a slightly wider rim for installation.
