How I Overcame Panic Attacks - The Natural Remedies That Saved My Life
The story of how I overcame panic attacks is a hard one to tell even after 7 years of conquering the dreadful disorder.
There are still some days and weeks where I fear it may rear it's ugly head in my life again, but then I feel strong in knowing that I conquered it once and could do it again if needed.
I began struggling with panic and anxiety literally out of the blue one day after I was given a new medication in the ER for an asthma attack.
The next day, my heart was racing in the 140s and it seemed that my whole world turned upside down.
Something chemically had happened to my brain from that medication and it threw off the delicate balance.
My panic and anxiety lasted for almost 1 year.
I had small children, and I often had irrational fears that I would hurt them without knowing it.
Once, I begged my poor husband to put me away somewhere until I could get it together.
Thankfully, he knew better and continued caring for me.
There were many days that I did not shower.
Many times, he would make me go for a ride in the car, but I would get to our destination and choose to just stay in the car while he and the kids went shopping or out to eat.
I was a shell of a person, and I truly thought I would never recover.
I spent so many nights in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack.
I truly thought I was dying before I turned 30.
I had every test known to man, all negative.
I had male doctors patting me on the head telling me to just calm down and not worry.
I tried medications, and had horrible reactions to the SSRI medications.
Once, the ambulance had to be called because I had turned beet red and was feeling faint.
They call that Serotonin Syndrome.
How I overcame panic attacks was the natural way.
For one thing, I began taking pharmaceutical grade St.
John's Wort and within one week, I felt the old me coming back.
I took that for about 2 months, went off of it and never had to take it again.
I also took a lot of B vitamins to give me energy.
Another thing I did was turn to my spiritual and religious side.
I listened to my spiritual leaders on tape and that gave me such strength.
Prayer also helped me forgive myself and restored my faith.
Exercise was another natural thing I had to do to get my body to re-balance itself.
