2015 Five-Star Hotels
The inspectors who select the 2015 Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotels are a discriminating lot, selecting the best of the best for equally discriminating travelers. They're also somewhat sclerotic, parsimoniously adding new hotels and rarely dropping ones that already made the list.
The one big departure in 2015 was Alaska's Hotel Alyeska, which made the list for the first time in 2014 yet didn't even earn four stars this year.
And, in what Lone Star State fans might consider a huge insult, the list still doesn't include a single Texas hotel.
California resorts continued their dominance, boasting more Forbes 5-Star hotels than any other state and the addition of exceptional Park Hyatt and Rosewood properties. We also send a warm welcome to newcomer Wheatleigh in Massachusetts, one of the most romantic settings for a honeymoon or small destination wedding we've visited anywhere.
