How to Troubleshoot Problems With Air Shock Absorbers

    • 1). Use an auto scanner to find out if a damaged electrical system is causing problems with the air suspension system. Follow the manufacturer's directions on the scanner as each one operates a little differently. The auto scanner plugs into a diagnostic port on the driver's side dash and reads the trouble codes the vehicle generates. This will help you to exactly pinpoint any electrical problems with the air shocks.

    • 2). Feel and listen to the air supply lines of your vehicle to make sure they are not damaged or kinked. A compressor is what supplies air pressure to your air suspension system; if it is running constantly, it may indicate a leak in the air supply lines. The auto scanner can also help you locate any problems with your air supply lines.

    • 3). Replace your air shocks if they are damaged or worn out; they will not be capable of properly holding air. You can replace an individual air shock, though this is not recommended for conventional shocks.
