How to Prune Austrian Pine Trees

    • 1). Cut the central leader, above a bud, to around 10 inches. The leader is the branch that grows straight up and is located at the top center of the tree.

    • 2). Cut the branches beside the central leader until they are 5 inches shorter than the leader. Keep in mind the shape you want the finished tree to be in--pyramid.

    • 3). Cut the branches on both sides of the tree so they are a few inches longer than the branches above. You will need to step back and look at your work while envisioning the final product.

    • 4). Cut until both sides of the tree have been pruned into a pyramid shape.
