Enjoy Rubber Stamping While on Vacation

Vacations are a great time for rubber stamping, whether you plan to take a few stamps with you and create while relaxing on vacation or are going to make cards or scrapbook pages on your return. While you may not want to cart all of your stamping supplies onto the beach or on a day trip, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy your craft while relaxing on vacation. Here are some tips for vacation themed stamping projects:

  • Instead of carrying stamp pads and rubber stamps with you, stamp some images onto plain paper before you go. This will use up much less space and you can color and trim the stamped images before adding them to projects.
  • Look for travel sized watercolor paint and colored pencil collections. These have been carefully designed to give you all the essentials while taking the minimum of space
  • Print some digital stamps onto plain paper and use these as the basis for vacation projects. This free fish digital stamp is ideal for a beach themed card or scrapbook page.
  • Take a sketch book with you and while you relax make a note or quick sketch of things that inspire you. This is a great way to record thoughts and ideas for new projects while also giving you an interesting journal to refer back to.
  • Make cards and postcards to send family and friends. Stamp a few images and write a suitable sentiment or two to make a personal alternative to shop-bought postcards. Print some postcard templates onto plain white cardstock to take with you.

Vacation Keepsakes for Crafting

Keep an eye out when you are on vacation for keepsake items that you can incorporate into future stamping projects:
  • Shells and beach treasures such as beach glass or interesting pebbles could be incorporated as embellishments into future handmade cards, scrapbook pages or other projects. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a bit of beach-combing while collecting some interesting embellishment ideas.
  • Photos of landscapes or items such as flowers can make a great backdrop for future projects. As well as taking photos to record your vacation memories, keep a look out for photo opportunities to incorporate in future projects.
  • Collect any interesting ephemera that you may find. Used ticket stubs, menus, stamps and many other printed items make great keepsakes and are also a good way to add further interest to your projects.

Tips for Vacation Stamping

If you are planning on stamping and crafting while on vacation, here are some things to consider:
  • Don't forget to check out the local stamping, paper craft and craft stores. They may offer something a little different to what you can find at home and this makes a practical and enjoyable vacation activity.
  • You may not want to take your expensive supplies with you on vacation. Keep a look out for second-hand or cheap alternatives and keep these as your travel supplies.
  • When flying, remember some items may not be allowed in hand luggage, therefore it is a good idea to check the latest advice before packing.
