Work in a Home Office? Don"t Be a Desk Potato!

Working in a home office offers a lot of advantages: no commute, relaxed atmosphere, no dress code, and a flexible schedule, are among the best that come to mind immediately.
One disadvantage is that with the office so close, and our tendency to be overachievers, it is very easy to find oneself glued to the desk from early morning to late at night.
Sometimes this is a necessity, as there are deadlines and specific job requirements that must be met in a limited amount of time, but most of the time being chained to the desk is self imposed.
The fact is that the human body was not designed to be in a sitting position all day every day.
It was designed for movement, exercise and physical labor.
When we stay immobile for long periods of time our muscles atrophy, we lose endurance and our heart muscle works only as hard as it has to.
During prolonged inactivity we not only lose obvious strength and body tone, but our heart and lungs also lose vigor and vitality.
Fortunately, unlike our peers in corporate offices, home office workers have the opportunity to plan breaks during the day, and the convenience to easily fit in a brisk walk or a workout session.
A half hour break in the morning provides ample time for a 2 mile walk in the neighborhood or on a tread mill.
Likewise.
a half hour break in the afternoon is sufficient time to work out with weights in your home gym, work out to a DVD, or follow one of the many exercise gurus on TV.
If you don't have On Demand TV, then it is very simple to record your favorite exercise shows for viewing during those breaks.
Scheduling time for physical fitness has a number of benefits.
First of all you are treating your body the way it should be treated.
It has been said that for every hour of robust exercise you are adding approximately two hours to your life.
On a more immediate timetable, taking a break to exercise will enable you to return to work with a better attitude and more vitality.
You will feel better about yourself, and being physically fit will give you more confidence in whatever it is that you do.
Finally, while this doesn't apply to everyone, exercise is one of the best tools to correct being overweight.
Even a moderate work out program increases metabolism, not only while exercising but for several hours afterward.
Before starting a new exercise program, be sure to check with your physician to determine what type of regimen you should begin with, and then build up from there.
So, be a workaholic if you must, but schedule breaks every day and use them to improve your body.
You will feel better, live longer, have an improved attitude, and be taking the first step in weight reduction.
You are your own boss in the work place, so don't forget that you are also in charge of your own body.
Take good care of it and it will take good care of you!
