How to Connect a Power Cord to a Dryer

    Three-prong plug

    • 1). Locate and remove the terminal block cover on the back of the dryer.

    • 2). Attach white wire to the center (neutral) post on the terminal block. Be sure there is a grounding strap or green wire attached to both the center post and the cabinet of the dryer.

    • 3). Attach red wire to the post labeled "L1". Attach black wire to the post labeled "L3".

    • 4). Replace the terminal block cover. Plug the dryer cord into the outlet.

    Four-prong plug

    • 1). Locate and remove the terminal block cover. If the grounding strap or wire is connected to center (neutral) post, disconnect it. The grounding wire on a four-prong cord is attached directly to the cabinet.

    • 2). Attach the white wire to the center post of the terminal block.

    • 3). Attach the ed wire to the post labeled "L1". Attach the black wire to the post labeled "L3".

    • 4). Connect the green (ground) wire to the dryer cabinet. There is usually a green screw located next to the terminal block cover provided for this purpose.

    • 5). Replace the terminal block cover. Plug the dryer cord into the outlet.
