How to Change the Fuel Filter for a Ford F-250
- 1). Raise the F-250 according to the instructions listed in your owner's manual, and support the truck with jack stands placed underneath the frame.
- 2). Disconnect the fuel pump by separating the electrical connector at the gas tank.
- 3). Start the engine, and allow it to run until it stalls out.
- 4). Crank the engine for five to 10 seconds to ensure all the pressure in the fuel rail and fuel lines is relieved.
- 5). Turn the ignition switch off.
- 6). Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal by loosening the retaining bolt and removing the clamp from the terminal. Secure the ground cable so that it cannot accidentally contact the negative terminal.
- 7). Reconnect the fuel pump by relinking the electrical connector at the gas tank.
- 1). Find the fuel filter. If you are having trouble, follow the steel fuel lines from the tank forward. The filter will be located along the vehicle's frame.
- 2). Remove the safety clips on the front and rear of the filter by squeezing the clips and unhooking the small latch.
- 3). Place a waste oil collection pan underneath the filter.
- 4). Use fuel line tool K-D 3321 to disconnect the fuel lines from the filter. Place the tool between the filter and the end of the fuel line. Push the tool into the end of the fuel line until you hear a click; then disengage the fuel line from the filter. Be careful, as fuel may spill out.
- 5). Remove the fuel filter from the truck by sliding it toward the back of the truck to disengage it from the retaining clamp.
- 1). Raise the new filter into position, and slide it forward into the retaining bracket.
- 2). Push the fuel lines onto the fuel filter inlet and outlet fittings. Listen for a click. Then you will know the fuel line is secure.
- 3). Reinstall the safety clips by sliding them over the fuel lines.
- 4). Reconnect the ground cable to the negative battery terminal by pushing the clamp onto the terminal and tightening the retaining bolt.
- 5). Run the engine and visually inspect for leaks.
- 6). Lower the truck.
