Illinois Appraiser License Vs. Associate
- The initial level of certifying for a licensed appraiser in Illinois is the associate appraiser. An associate is required to train with the supervision of an Illinois certified residential appraiser for at least two years before becoming certified. To be qualified for the Illinois appraisal licensing exam, applicants must also complete pre-license course work on principles and procedures.
- The next level of certifying as a licensed appraiser is for the Illinois certified residential appraiser. After two years, an associate may advance to an Illinois certified residential appraiser. The certified residential appraiser applicant is completely accountable for his own work and can open their own appraisal firm. Under Illinois law, certified residential appraisers are qualified to appraise homes and up to four-unit housing.
