Scott Allen: Hi!
This is Scott Allen, About.com Entrepreneurs Guide and I am here with a couple of America's top serial entrepreneurs and top business coaches. They are the founders of OneCoach. We also will be talking about their experience as serial entrepreneurs. Between the two of them, they have built about 17 or so successful businesses, including RE/MAX of Indiana and Indian Motorcycle and Murray, you were also with Dave & Buster's for a while doing some turn-around stuff there, as I recall.
Murray Smith: That's correct. I had gone in and taken over as President of their Canadian operations.
Scott: Fantastic! So what I did here was I put out to my readership to ask them if you had one question to ask these guys, what would that question be? So pretty much all the questions that I'm going to ask you here are actually from my readers and we'll see what they have to say and what you have to say in response to that. So without any further adieu, let's kick it off.
You guys have both had successful businesses in other areas.
What motivated you to start OneCoach?
Murray: John and I have been life-long friends for the past 25 years and done a number of business deals together, and really enjoyed the time that we spent working together, and the successes that we had accomplished, and in 2005, we decided that we were going to come out of retirement and we were going to focus and devote the rest of our lives towards helping entrepreneurs around the world benefit from the experiences, successes and failures that we had enjoyed through our careers.
We did. We got together. We spent a year evaluating the market-place and how we would approach it, what business model would make sense, the different things that we had to do create the right environment, recognizing that every entrepreneur was different and unique, and we really wanted to create an experience that took the very complex world of doing business today and to simplify it into an easy-to-approach, somewhat assured outcome from a confidence and certainty standpoint. We really actually sat down to want to create the quick results-model.
That's how and when we created OneCoach. John?
John Assaraf: Absolutely. I think, for us there was what were we going to do next in our lives and you can retire for just so long and not be bored, especially when you have got an active mind, and we saw that there was a really black hole in the world of entrepreneurism and small business ownership for people who were putting their money and their time and their hearts into their business or their passions and their success rate or the failure rate was out of whack. It just didn't make any sense that 95% of people who started business which failed or not be in the same business in the next five years. And so we just saw a need in the market-place, we saw that our passion for helping grow businesses could be made as well. So the two met and we launched OneCoach.
