With its location on the eastern-most tip of Long Island, some call Montauk, New York "The End," while others call it "The Beginning." Life revolves around the water in Montauk as it bordered by Block Island Sound on the north and the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the south. Many of Montauk's restaurants enjoy waterfront locations, and most take advantage of the wealth of freshly-caught seafood that the area affords them. - Zagat-rated Harvest restaurant is nestled on the banks of Fort Pond. The simple interior with its neutral tones, dark woods and wrap-around windows take a backseat to the serene beauty of the view. A pier, equipped with subdued lighting for evening strolls, seems to stretch endlessly across the water. The restaurant is known for its extensive wine list and large portions of rustic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine that New York Times food critic Robin Finn calls "Schwarzeneggerian."
Fresh locally-sourced seafood, herbs and vegetables from the restaurant's private gardens are the basis for many of Harvest's dishes. The thoughtfully prepared menu includes an assortment of appetizers, salads, grilled pizzas, pastas and sides as well as seafood, pork, beef, veal and poultry entrees. Popular dishes include the grilled salmon with spinach-mushroom risotto, corn-fed skirt steak with arugula, red onion, manchego cheese, roasted garlic and tomato butter and the garlic shrimp and spaghetti. Reservations are strongly recommended.
