Niche Social Media May Be the Next Big Thing
Niche social networks may be the next wave of what we will see on the web.
Everybody and their grandmother seem to be on Facebook and Twitter.
Though I still love these tools, sometimes I notice them becoming too crowded and difficult to follow.
You know what I mean; sometimes those Twitter updates about people's weather opinions or the fact that their cereal was too soggy this morning can be disruptive if you are getting a huge amount of them.
We don't want to get rid of our friends or the people we are following because often times they are just that; our friends.
Niche networks just might be the way that people start getting control of their information back.
Niche social networks could mean stronger, more targeted relationships, and more better opportunity for you as an internet marketing writer.
As people have become more adept with social media, I feel like the next thing they are going to want is something that fulfills their passion in life.
Most of the niche networks out there are very small, and thus difficult to find in Google.
When I type in "marketing social network", I don't get near a niche network.
But when I look for "knitting social network," I find a professionally done niche social network called Ravelry.
MySpace has changed to become a niche social network for music.
Flixster is a niche network where movie buffs go to criticize or praise everything related to film.
Flixster also does something extremely powerful; it integrates with Facebook.
If you don't want to leave your beloved Facebook friends, but you're also a Flixter at heart, you can download the Flixter Facebook Application and rate movies, view trailers, etc.
With advertising spend expected to grow to $1.
9 billion in 2010 (up roughly almost 7X from $280 million in 2006), there is a lot of incentive for these niche social networks to start sprouting up - the next one could end up helping with your next proven internet marketing program.
If you have a business that is closely linked to a niche network, you can expect an audience that will be more interested in your marketing messages - so go see if there's one out there!
