How to Change the Main IP Address in cPanel
- 1). Go to the "Start" menu, select "All Programs," click "Accessories," click "Command Prompt," type "ipconfig /all" into the "Command Prompt" window and then hit "Enter" on your keyboard.
- 2). Write down the numbers displayed for "Default Gateway." They should be something along the lines of "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1." The "Subnet Mask" is usually something like "255.255.255.0" and "DNS Servers" are usually the same as the Default Gateway number.
- 3). Go back to the "Start" menu, click "Control Panel," select "Network and Internet," choose "Network and Sharing Center" and then click "Change adapter settings" in the left pane.
- 4). Right-click on the connection you are using with your router, select "Properties," select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and then click "Properties" again.
- 5). Select "Use the following IP address" and type the numbers you copied down from the "Subnet Mask," "Default Gateway" and "Preferred DNS Server" sections. In the "IP Address" section, begin by typing in the first 3 parts of the "Default Gateway" number (e.g. "192.168.1") and then enter any number between 1 and 254 in the final part of the section. The final number should look something like "192.168.1.178."
- 6). Click "OK" to save your IP address change.
