How do I Use Plastic Tongue & Groove Beadboard As Shower Surround?
- 1). Make sure the walls around the shower are prepped correctly. The wall should be covered in moisture resistant drywall, and coated with two coats of latex primer. Allow the primer to dry for 24 hours before applying the beadboard to the wall.
- 2). Measure the walls of the shower, by determining the height and width of each individual wall. Every corner needs a separate sheet, because the sheets are not too flexible and you do not want water to seep behind the beadboard.
- 3). Measure the beadboard panels to see how many you will need for each wall. Use a circular saw to trim down any boards that will not fit on the wall.
- 4). Apply the waterproof glue to the wall. Press each beadboard panel into place, then pull it away from the wall. This action helps the glue to set firmly. After you press the board into the wall again you will not be able to remove it a second time, so make sure to properly align it.
- 5). Slip the groove of the next beadboard panel into the tongue of the board on the wall. Press the panel into the wall. Continue to align the panels together in this manner until you have placed the last beadboard panel in your shower.
- 6). Cut the beadboard trim so that it fits over the top of the beadboard panels, around the top of the shower. You also will use the trim to cover the seams where the walls meet. Glue the trim into place.
- 7). Caulk the joints between the wall and the trim and between the trim and the beadboard panels. Use a damp cloth to smooth out the caulk and seal any gaps. Caulk all of the seams between each corner of the shower. Smooth out the caulk in the same way. Allow the shower to dry for 48 hours before using it.
