- 1). Get a microphone with a headset. Some headsets have closed-back features that conceal sound. You can purchase headsets from a retail or electronic store. Recommend that your family member or friend get a headset as well so that conversations will be clear on both ends.
- 2). Use headphones instead of computer speakers if you do not have a headset. To use a headphone, plug it into the headphone jack input on your computer. Depending on your computer model, the headphone port is on the back, front or side of your central processing unit.
- 3). Move your external microphone away from static objects such as lamps. Move the microphone closer or further away from your mouth to determine the best signal.
- 4). Move to a quiet room free from ambient noises like television sets and noisy people. This is ideal if you are using an external microphone and speakers.
