- Physical pain and discomfort often occurs if the hearing aid fits too snugly in your ear. Usually a sore spot will develop in the area where the hearing aid puts pressure on your ear.
- Your hearing care professional will adjust the fit of your hearing aid by modifying the size of the shell, dome, tubing or wiring. If you have a custom hearing aid, your audiologist may take a new impression of your ear to remake the shell.
- Your ear will not "get used to the hearing aid" if it is too big.
- Do not try to adjust the shell, dome, tubing, wiring or other parts of the hearing aid yourself.
- If you keep wearing your hearing aid even though your ear is painful, your symptoms may worsen to the point of severe pain or bleeding. Stop wearing the hearing aid immediately if your ear starts to hurt, then call your audiologist.
